One day or two days?

The difference is based on the fitness knowledge you already have. You don't need to spend two days learning material you've already covered elsewhere.

Already fitness qualified

One-day instructor training

The practical indoor cycling route for people who already hold a suitable Level 2 or Level 3 fitness qualification.

This route may be right for you if: you already have an appropriate fitness qualification and don't need to repeat the underpinning exercise knowledge.

You'll complete the required pre-course learning before attending, then spend the training day concentrating on indoor cycling technique, coaching and practical delivery.

Two-day instructor training

Face-to-face learning

What you'll work on

In-person training gives you time on the bike, opportunities to practise, and direct feedback as you develop your indoor cycling instruction.

Bike set-up and rider safety

Set riders up appropriately and understand the practical decisions that help keep a class safe.

Riding technique

Develop the five indoor cycling positions, transitions and effective pedalling technique.

Intensity and cadence

Understand how resistance, cadence and effort combine to create an appropriate challenge.

Coaching

Give instructions that riders can understand and use while they're exercising.

Session design

Build sessions around a clear aim rather than simply assembling a sequence of movements.

Practical delivery

Bring technique, coaching, music and session structure together in a real teaching setting.

Course content

Build the knowledge behind the class

Good indoor cycling instruction is more than being energetic at the front of the room.

You'll learn how to make informed choices about technique, intensity, session structure and coaching, so that what you ask riders to do has a reason behind it.

Certification

Training, practice and assessment

Attending the course is part of the process. Your ICI certification is awarded when you've successfully completed the required learning and assessments.

That means the certificate represents demonstrated knowledge and practical ability, rather than simply attendance at a training day.

You'll have guidance on what is required and tutor support while you work through the process.

1
Prepare Complete the required pre-course learning before attending your practical training.
2
Train Attend your practical face-to-face course and develop your teaching skills.
3
Complete your assessments Demonstrate the knowledge and practical skills required for certification.
4
Become an ICI instructor Once all required elements are passed, receive your ICI Foundation Instructor certification.
